JANET GRATION BH(hons) FTCL GRNCM ARCM ALCM PGCE
Janet Gration was born in Manchester and began singing at the age of 9, competing in Music Festivals around the North West of England, then fulfilling her first professional engagement two years later. She attended the Manchester School of Music (where she later became a tutor) followed by four years as a junior exhibitioner at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she subsequently went on to study full-time for four years. Other complimentary skills studied were ballet, the theory and practice of constructing theatrical costumes, and successfully qualifying as a teacher of speech and drama.
Janet made her operatic debut at Sadler’s Wells as ‘Mimi’ in ‘La Bohème’ and went on to become a member of the ‘New Opera Company’, performing contemporary opera at Sadler’s Wells Theatre. Following this was a contract with the Royal Opera, Covent Garden for four years as well as touring Denmark, Greece and the USA as a singer and France as an accompanist. She has worked as a soloist in opera, concert and oratorio throughout England, Wales and Ireland, recorded for television, radio, video and CD. Janet has given a series of lectures on “The Musical Stage” for adult education, and is also responsible for the formation and Musical Direction of the ‘Tichbourne Chorale’ and the ‘Tichbourne Singers’ (based in Mid-Sussex), in addition to private teaching, accompanying, coaching, examining and adjudicating.
